Why do I need a card?
Your library card will enable you to use the Thomas Aveling School and Community Library. You can also use your card to borrow from any other Medway Public Library. Your card is your identification.
When can I use the Thomas Aveling Library?
During the school day, after school finishes, on Saturday and during the school holidays.
What may I use the Library for?
To read, research or study quietly.
To borrow books, tapes, DVDs and Playstation Games.
To use ICT facilities.
To use the photocopier.
What if I forget to bring my card to school?
During school time you may use your planner as ID.
You must have your card in order to borrow items out of normal school hours.
When may I borrow DVDs and Playstation Games ?
You may borrow Audio Visual items during public hours, ie after 3.00 pm throughout the school week and all day on Saturday.
How many items can I borrow and do I have to pay?
Up to 30 items - books and story tapes are free but you will have to pay a rental charge for DVDs and Games.
How long may I keep my books for?
Normally 3 weeks for books. Audio Visual items vary according to type. Always look at the date stamped on the date label. It is your responsibility to return them on time.
What if I want to keep them for longer?
Unless someone else wants them, you may renew them at any library in the Medway area. Either bring the books in, telephone or renew online.
What if I forget to bring my books back ?
You may be fined or charged for postage when reminder letters are sent out to your home.
While you have overdue items or unpaid fines, you will not be able to borrow any more books.
How do I check how many books I have got out or when they are due back?
Visit or telephone any library in the Medway area with your card and ask at the counter.
Access your details on-line. To do this you must ask the Librarian for your PIN number - you will need your card.
Make sure you look at the date on the date label.
Do we have to be quiet in the library?
Quiet YES, silent NO
- some people find it difficult to concentrate in noisy situations.
BE CONSIDERATE - there are plenty of places outside to run around.
